GUYS! I got accepted into my favorite art festival, Starry Night, which also takes place outside of my favorite coffee house, Greyhouse! And I am PSYCHED! I couldn’t believe it when I received the email. I have been anxiously awaiting an email that was a “yay” or “nay” and my heart and breath both stopped when I saw you’re ACCEPTED.
I started attending Starry when I was a student at Purdue. I tagged along with my sister who had been going to Starry a few years before me and always talked about “how I would just love Starry Night.” I finally attended with her one year and haven’t stopped since.
It’s one of the only places where I will willingly put myself smack dab in the middle of 15,000 people and just take it in. Most people who know me know I would rather be anywhere besides large crowds. I’m super introverted, but I have so many fond memories from Starry Night and Greyhouse and it’s all put on by our campus church I have attended for several years, Campus House. So much love and care goes into the making and bringing to life of Starry Night. I look forward to it every year!
The atmosphere of Starry Night is so warm and inviting. There are artists, makers, vintage markets, musicians and so many twinkly lights draped over the entire festival. I am so honored to be among these talented people and be able to share my Wonderful Wild Souls with my community.
I even have gotten to help design promotional materials, mugs, t-shirts, etc. when I was a graphic design intern with Greymob during college! Those were some of my favorite projects. Of course, the beautiful logo can be attributed to one of my design mentors, Emily Knapp. Her lettering work is amazing.
Another year my sister suggested (basically forced me) to volunteer as a henna artist. I was so nervous about it because, like, large crowds and what if I can't do it and blah blah blah and all the other overthinking thoughts that run through my head, but it ended up being so much fun! My (best and worst) sister has always been able to give me that extra push to do things that will be good for me.
One of my favorite things about Starry Night is that there is a couple of people running around all night with vintage Polaroid cameras that will take your picture for $2. I always track one down and take a picture with whoever I’m with - this is a MUST when you attend Starry. It’s a great keepsake and who doesn’t love a vintage-style photo?
They also have super fun and interactive components of their festival. They encourage vendors to have an interactive activity of some sort, and I’ve got a great plan for what I want to do! Stay tuned to find out more. :)
